The Five Aspects of Holistic Health

Kausthub Desikachar is a well-known yoga teacher, healer, and spiritual adviser. The founder of both KHYF International and Viniyoga Pte. Ltd., he also serves as CEO of the Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation. Kausthub Desikachar maintains an interest in yoga as a complement to holistic healing and often employs holistic health principles in his work. Here is a brief explanation of the five aspects of holistic health:

Physical
When people think of health, they most often think of physical health. Part of this is because physical signs and symptoms of illnesses are more easily tracked. Sleep, exercise, and diet are all components of physical health.

Social
Human beings are social creatures. As such, social interactions play a big role in a person’s emotional state. Holistic health promotes social networking and volunteering to foster healthy social connections, while advocating for the release of toxic contacts.

Emotional
There is a strong link between prolonged emotional challenges and physical illnesses, yet emotional health is often overlooked. Through holistic health, seeking therapy when needed is encouraged, as is practicing mindfulness and lowering stress.

Spiritual
Being spiritually healthy does not mean being religious. Rather, it focuses on how a person’s inner soul connects with the world around them. Spending time in nature or meditating every day are two methods of boosting spiritual health.

Mental Memory, decision-making, and learning new things are all tied up in a person’s mental or cognitive health. People must function at the peak of their cognitive abilities if they want to be healthy in other aspects of their lives.

Overview of the Viniyoga Therapy Training

The co-founder and CEO of the Krishnamacharya Healing & Yoga Foundation (KHYF), Dr. Kausthub Desikachar earned a PhD in 2010 with a dissertation entitled “Role of Individualized Yoga Practice on Quality of Life.” In 2019, Dr. Kausthub Desikachar founded Viniyoga Pte. Ltd., a KHYF affiliate based in Singapore.

Focused on teaching and promoting the Viniyoga tradition, Viniyoga Pte. Ltd. provides training programs for individuals interested in learning more about practicing yoga. A component of the curriculum is the Viniyoga therapy training program.

The Viniyoga therapy training program applies the holistic principles of yoga as a way to complement healing. Those interested in becoming yoga therapists or adding yoga therapy techniques to their work can participate in this 1000-hour-long training. Upon graduation, they receive a Viniyoga certification from the KHYF.

Students of the program learn to address several health concerns holistically with the help of yoga and the tools it offers. The Viniyoga therapy training program also trains professionals in implementing a one-on-one approach to healing.
